WWF played up his connection to his father and grandfather, calling him the company's first third-generation wrestler [However there were several third generation wrestlers before Rock].

He debuted at Survivor Series in November 1996 and was the sole survivor, and he won the Intercontinental Championship from Hunter Hearst Helmsley on Raw on February 13, 1997, after only three months in the company.

After losing the Intercontinental Championship to Owen Hart on the April 28, 1997 edition of Raw is War.

At In Your House: D-Generation X, Austin defeated The Rock in less than six minutes to retain the Intercontinental title. The following night on Raw is War, Austin was ordered by Mr. McMahon to forfeit the WWF Intercontinental Championship, which Austin handed over to The Rock before hitting the Stone Cold Stunner on him.Rock spent the end of 1997 and the beginning of 1998 feuding with both Austin and Ken Shamrock.

Rock held the IC title for quite some time till the Summerslam 1998 where he lost the belt to HHH.

He had a rematch against Mankind for the WWF Championship. Mankind won by submission but Mr. McMahon said that since The Rock did not tap out that The Rock would retain his title. The Rock began a feud with Mankind over the WWF Championship, during which the title changed hands back and forth between the two, first during the main event of the January 4, 1999 edition of Raw is War, when Mankind defeated The Rock with the help of Stone Cold Steve Austin. The Rock captured his second WWF Championship in an "I Quit" Match at Royal Rumble in early 1999.This feud lasted until February 15 edition of Raw is War, where The Rock won his third WWF Championship in a ladder match after The Big Show chokeslammed Mankind off a ladder.

Rock the lost his title to Austin on WrestleMania XV. Their tage team is said to be one of the most entertaining and succesful on WWF HIstory.

Thee Rock then defeated The Big Show on March 13, 2000 edition of Raw is War to regain the right to face the WWF Champion, Triple H, at WrestleMania 2000 in a Fatal Four-Way Elimination match where The Big Show and Mick Foley competed, as well. Each competitor had a McMahon in their corner; for Triple H, his on-screen wife and then off-screen girlfriend Stephanie McMahon; for Mick Foley, the matriarch Linda McMahon; for The Rock, Vince McMahon; and in Big Show's corner, Shane McMahon.Triple H retained the title when Vince turned on The Rock, giving him two chair shots, allowing Triple H to pin The Rock for the three-count.

The Rock had a rematch with Triple H at Backlash in which The Rock won his fourth WWF Championship .Later, at Judgment Day, the two had an Iron Man match with Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee, Rock got Disqualified and hence lost his title to HHH. He regained the title at King of The Ring in a Tag team match teaming with Undertaker. Finally Lost his belt to Kurt Angle at No mercy 2000 after holding the belt for quite a number of PPV's.He then participated in a six-man Hell in a Cell match at Armageddon for the WWF Championship, in which Kurt Angle retained the title .

In 2001, The Rock continued his feud with Angle over the WWF Championship and eventually settled it at No Way Out. After a battle that saw both wrestlers kick out of each other's finishers, The Rock finally came out on top and regained the WWF Championship.

The Rock then lost his title to Stone Cold Steve Austin on WrestleMania Seventeen. At SummerSlam, The Rock defeated Booker T to win the WCW Championship. He lost the WCW title to Chris Jericho, with whom he won the WWF Tag Team Championship around the same time, at No Mercy.

Rock defeated Jericho on November 5 edition of Raw is War for his second WCW Championship, however he lost the title to Jericho later and hence Jericho became the unified champion [Undisputed Champion].

On July 21, The Rock won his record-breaking seventh and final WWE Championship, which was then under the name "WWE Undisputed Championship".He defeated Kurt Angle and The Undertaker in a match at Vengeance, after he hit the Rock Bottom on Angle, finally dropped the WWE Undisputed Championship to Lesnar at SummerSlam, ending his final championship reign [Which is considered as one of the greatest matches of all time, this match let a kick Start of Brock's career].

The Rock defeated Austin at WrestleMania XIX, which was Austin's last major appearance in a wrestling role. The Rock then had a feud with former World Championship Wrestling star Bill Goldberg, to whom Rock lost at Backlash. He left WWE to pursue his acting career and made only occasional appearance after it as he was no more people's favourite.

Sting is a nine-time World Heavyweight Champion, holding the championships from National Wrestling Alliance, World Championship Wrestling, and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. He is also the most well-known and successful professional wrestler to have never performed under contract for World Wrestling Entertainment.

Some of sting's matches feature in all time best wrestling matches.

  • Contracted with UWF from 1985-1987
  • Borden and Jim "Justice" Hellwig (later The Ultimate Warrior), formed a tag team known as the Blade Runners
  • He won the UWF Tag Team Championship twice with Gilbert in 1986 and a third time with Rick Steiner in 1987
  • Featured in NWA from 1987-1989
  • Having established himself as a rising star, Sting was one of the only UWF alumni to be pushed through the NWA. At the inaugural Clash of Champions, Sting challenged Ric Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. The match itself was booked as a 45-minute time-limit draw.
  • teamed with Dusty Rhodes to challenge for the tag team belts at Starrcade '88, defeating The Road Warriors by disqualification.
  • won his first title in the NWA when he defeated Mike Rotundo for the NWA Television Championship.
  • In mid 1989, The Great Muta was booked to challenge Sting on July 23 at The Great American Bash. The match was a classic Dusty Finish even though the "American Dream" had been fired months before. Sting got the three-count and was announced as the winner.
  • Sting finished out the year winning the four-man round robin Ironman tournament at Starrcade '89. The night ended when he defeated Flair in the final match to accumulate the necessary amount of points needed to win. It also made Sting the number one contender for Flair's NWA World Title, which was the catalyst for the events that immediately followed.
  • Borden suffered a legitimate knee injury while interfering in a Steel Cage match featuring the Four Horsemen,Sting was eventually replaced by Lex Luger, who unsuccessfully challenged Flair for the title in a series of matches while Sting recuperated.
  • Flair said that he had promised Sting that he would be waiting for him to get better, and would hold the belt until then, saying that he wanted to lose it to Sting.
  • After Borden's recovery, Sting finally defeated Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on July 7, 1990, at the Great American Bash.
  • Sting defended his title aganist Sid Vicious.

Contracted to WCW from 1991-1995

  • Sting's championship reign ended on January 11, 1991, when he was defeated by Flair in a re-match from Starrcade.
  • He also took part in what many consider to be one of the best matches of 1991, teaming with Lex Luger to face the Steiner Brothers at the first SuperBrawl pay-per-view.
  • In August 1991, Sting defeated Steve Austin to win a tournament for the WCW U.S. title.
  • The feud ended when Sting and his allies, named Sting's Squadron (consisting of himself, Ricky Steamboat, Dustin Rhodes, Barry Windham, and Nikita Koloff) defeated the Alliance (Rude, Austin, Arn Anderson, Larry Zbyszko, and Bobby Eaton) in a WarGames match at WrestleWar in May 1992.
  • In April 1992, he defended his WCW World title at The Omni in Atlanta against the 450-pound Big Van Vader.
  • Sting again faced Vader in the "King of Cable" tournament final at Starrcade, where Sting was victorious. The Sting-Vader feud continued into 1993, with Vader defeating Sting in a bloody Strap match at SuperBrawl III. Sting exacted revenge by beating Vader for the World title on March 11 in London, England, but lost it back to him six days later in Dublin, Ireland.
  • Sting then teamed up with newcomer Davey Boy Smith to beat the team of Vader and Sid Vicious at Beach Blast, a match that was set up by a mini-movie that saw an evil midget blow up Sting's boat.
  • ting feuded with Vader and Rude through the first half of 1994, defeating Vader in a match for the vacant NWA World title (referred to as the WCW International World title) at Slamboree after Rude was forced to vacate due to his suffering a career-ending injury against Sting in Japan
  • Soon afterward, Flair turned heel and defeated Sting in a title unification match at Clash of the Champions XXVII.
  • Sting spent the second half of '94 and most of 1995 teaming with new arrival Hulk Hogan in his battles against the Three Faces of Fear and later against the Dungeon of Doom.
  • The first part of 1996 had Sting teaming with Lex Luger (who had returned to WCW in September 1995) to win the WCW World Tag Team title from Harlem Heat.
  • Sting  received a World title shot against The Giant at Slamboree, but lost after accidental interference from Luger.
  • After nearly six months of uncertainty and mystery, Sting finally showed his true colors as a face by single-handedly taking out the entire nWo at Uncensored in March 1997.
  • Sting and Hogan finally met at Starrcade for the WCW World Championship, with Sting winning controversially due to a decision by special guest referee Bret Hart when he reversed the decision made by referee Nick Patrick after Hogan pinned Sting after what he believed to be a "fast count. The match was restarted and Sting made Hogan submit to the Scorpion Deathlock.
  • In 1999, Sting once again won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship on Monday Nitro against Diamond Dallas Page, but lost it back to him only a little over an hour and a half later in the Main Event in a four-way match set up by Kevin Nash (the fourth participant was Bill Goldberg).
  • Sting teased turning heel by first attacking Hulk Hogan (who had once again become a face at this point) at Fall Brawl, hitting Hogan with his baseball bat several times en route to regaining the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.
  • He retained against Hogan at Halloween Havoc after Hogan arrived to the ring in street clothes and merely laid down for a 3-count, but promptly lost an unsanctioned defense to Bill Goldberg at the end of the night. What was considered to be one of the best match of all time.
  • He was given the opportunity to regain the title in a tournament, but lost to Bret Hart in the semi-finals.
  • e was "injured" by Scott Steiner in 2000, leaving WCW TV for good. However, he returned for the last episode of Monday Nitro, on March 26, 2001 and defeated his longtime rival Ric Flair, embracing in a sportsmanlike fashion at the end of the contest. Fittingly, this was the last WCW match ever, and the final match between Sting and Flair, ending a 13-year, on-again/off-again feud.

Contracted to TNA- Total nonstop wrestling Action from 2003-2005

  • He debuted in TNA on the June 18 one year anniversary show, teaming with Jeff Jarrett to defeat A.J. Styles and Syxx Pac.
  • Sting returned to TNA on November 5, 2003, defeating Jarrett by disqualification in a match for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.
  • On November 12, Sting teamed with A.J. Styles to defeat Jarrett and Lex Luger. He made his final TNA appearance of 2003 on December 17, defeating Jarrett in a non-title match.
  • At Final Resolution, Sting and Christian Cage defeated NWA World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Jarrett and Monty Brown after Sting pinned Jeff Jarrett following the Scorpion Death Drop.[4] His heavily promoted return was greeted with chants of "welcome back" and "you've still got it" by the Orlando, Florida audience.
  • On August 13, 2006 at Hard Justice, Sting failed to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship losing to Jeff Jarrett after Christian Cage turned heel and hit Sting with Jarrett's guitar.
  • On October 22, 2006, in a Title vs Career match at the Bound for Glory PPV, Sting returned debuting his new look, a hybrid of his surfer, crow, and nWo Wolfpac styles, looking physically a lot leaner. He went on to claim his second NWA World Heavyweight Title when Jarrett submitted to the Scorpion Deathlock marking the first major championship title Sting had won since 1999.
  • ting became the oldest NWA World Heavyweight Champion of the TNA Era.
  • He lost the title to "The Monster" Abyss at Genesis by disqualification after pushing aside the referee and pushing Abyss into a stack of tables covered in barbed wire.
Makes a comeback to TNA on 2008 and wins TNA heavyweight title by defeating Samoe Joe on TNA PPV Glory.Rejects WWE offer and speculates retirement on 2009.

Debut 1984

In WWF, Anoa'i was a former two-time WWF Champion[6] and two-time WWF Tag Team Champion,[7] as well as the winner of the 1993 Royal Rumble.[8] Anoa'i was the first wrestler of Samoan descent to hold the WWF Championship as well as the first Royal Rumble winner to receive a world title shot at WrestleMania, as a result of direct stipulation.

In 1992, Anoa'i was contacted by Vince McMahon of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and was offered a new gimmick: Yokozuna. Managed by Harry Fujiwara (Mr. Fuji), Yokozuna debuted in October 1992, and was announced as a sumo wrestler competing under the Japanese flag. His first notable victory came at Survivor Series 1992, when he squashed the much smaller Virgil.Soon, Yokozuna's career took off, and he headed into 1993's Royal Rumble billed as a potential favorite. He eliminated Randy Savage to win the Rumble, cementing his movement towards main event status.

WWF Championship reigns (1993-1994)

At WrestleMania IX, Yokozuna faced off against Bret Hart for the WWF Championship. Hart had the match won with Yokozuna about to submit to the Sharpshooter, when Mr. Fuji threw salt into the champion's face. Blinded, Hart was then pinned by Yokozuna, who won the WWF Championship, causing a major upset, and officially making Yokozuna the seventeenth WWF Champion, He was the youngest champion that time. He lost his title immdeiately to Hulk Hogan.

At King of the Ring 1993 he reclaimed his title back from Hulk Hogan. To celebrate, he held a "Bodyslam Competition" aboard the USS Intrepid on Independence Day. Many wrestlers and athletes alike tried to slam Yokozuna, with no success. As Yokozuna thought that there would be none left to challenge him, Lex Luger flew in by helicopter, stepped forward, and slammed him on the deck.

At SummerSlam 1993, Yokozuna Lost the title match to Lex Lugar via countout and hence didnot lose his belt.Yokozuna and Luger continued to feud until Survivor Series 1993, where each chose a team of allies for an elimination match. The match was billed as an All Americans (Lex Luger, The Undertaker and Steiner Brothers) vs. Foreign Fanatics (Yokozuna, Quebecer Jacques, Ludvig Borga and Crush) contest.

okozuna was forced to accept a Casket match with The Undertaker. The match occurred at Royal Rumble 1994, where all the odds looked to be in the Undertaker's favor. However, after a lengthy match, Mr. Fuji called out the troops, bringing a dozen heel wrestlers out to aid Yokozuna in attacking the Undertaker.Yoko won the casket match by locking Undertaker inside the casket.

Later, in the actual 1994 Royal Rumble match, the last two competitors, Lex Luger and Bret Hart, fought and eliminated each other simultaneously. Since the winner of the Royal Rumble was to become the number one contender to Yokozuna's title, it was decided that both wrestlers would get a shot at the title at WrestleMania X.Yokozuna lost the title to Hitman after he fell out from the ropes and be counted out.

espite being a fearsome and ruthless competitor on camera, he was regarded by many of his peers and fellow superstars to be a genuinely friendly and heartwarming man who was a true professional in the ring. Superstars like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Bret Hart, and Hulk Hogan have spoken highly of Anoa'i in various interviews about his professionalism in and outside the ring. Anoa'i was also close friends with The Undertaker, despite their on screen rivalry.

On October 23, 2000, Anoa'i died of fluid in his lungs while in his room at the Moat House Hotel, Liverpool. It was widely reported that his death was caused by a heart attack or heart failure. Anoa'i Died at the weight of over 600 pounds.

Hart accumulated a multitude of championship accolades during his career; he was a two-time Intercontinental Champion, one-time European Champion and four-time World Tag Team Champion in the WWF and a one-time World Heavyweight Champion in the United States Wrestling Association (USWA). Hart was also the winner of the 1994 WWF King of the Ring. He died on May 23, 1999 when an equipment malfunction occurred during his entrance from the rafters of the Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri at the WWF's Over the Edge pay-per-view event.

World Wrestling Federation (1988–1989

Owen debuted at the Los Angeles Sports Arena in August of 1988 under a mask called the Blue Angel. Instead of promoting Owen as Bret Hart’s younger brother, the WWF decided to create a masked “Super Hero" type gimmick for Owen Hart known as The Blue Blazer.

he Blazer caught the attention of fans with his unique look and exciting aerial maneuvers, but he didn't achieve much success against upper-card talent, being eliminated at Survivor Series 1988, losing to Ted DiBiase on the March 11, 1989 airing of Saturday Night's Main Event and being defeated by Mr. Perfect at WrestleMania V.

very brief sting in World Championship Wrestling (1991)

World Wrestling Federation 1991–1993

Owen signed with the WWF for a second time.

Neidhart and Owen formed an alliance called The New Foundation.

The New Foundation first feud came against Beverly Brothers and had only one PPV match at the 1992 Royal Rumble where they beat The Orient Express.Owen then teamed up with Koko B. after Neidhart Ware to form the duo known as High Energy, again only one PPV match as a team, at the 1992 Survivor Series where they lost to The Headshrinkers.

Owen Hart won the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship from Papa Shango, but it was never acknowledged on WWF television.

The two brothers faced off for the first time at WrestleMania X,where Owen Hart shocked the world by cleanly pinning his older brother.

Owen then won the prestigious King of the Ring in 1994.After the victory, Owen took the nickname “The King of Harts".

Owen and Bret feuded throughout the summer of 1994,lost a steelcage match at Summer slam 1994, which is acclaimed as one of all time top 100 matches.

Then on August 17 1994 Owen Hart initially won and was announced as World champion but then reversed due to interference.Bret and owen clashed again after Royal Rumble 1995 with Bret soundly defeating his brother, thus putting an end to their feud for the time being.

Owen then paired with  Yokozuna at WrestleMania XI to beat The smoking guns to win the WWF tag-team titles.Owen Hart and Yokozuna would continue to team off and on until the end of the year, winning the titles a second time.

In September 1996, Bulldog & Owen Hart finally earned a PPV shot at the tag team titles at In Your House 10.Owen and Bulldog left with the gold after defeating the Smoking Gunns.

British Bulldog and Owen hart fought for the 1st European championship and British Bulldog came up with trumps.

After retaining the tag team titles against the Headbangers by disqualification on Monday Night Raw (March 24, 1997) the tension between the two bubbled over and they Owen challanged Bulldog for European championship, but the match was called off after Bret's interference and they three together formed the new "Hart foundation",which also included Hart in-law Jim Neidhart and Hart Family friend Brian Pillman.

Owen then won his first Intercontinetal championship beating The Rock, this meant that the Hart Foundation held every WWF title except the World title, cementing their dominance over the federation.

Owen Hart/Steve Austin feud took a nasty turn as a botched piledriver ended up injuring Steve Austin’s neck.[31][32] The injury was so bad that Austin’s neck never fully recovered and was part of the reason Austin was forced to retire in 2003.

Because of the neck injury, Austin was not allowed to compete and was stripped of the title. Although it was an accident, the WWF decided to make it part of the storyline as Owen Hart began wearing a t-shirt patterned after Austin's that read "Owen 3:16/I Just Broke Your Neck".

Owen Hart then won IC title and defended it against Farooq at ppv Bad blood 1997.

Owen had a very heated, very emotional feud with DX and won the European title from HHH.

Owen Hart then left wwf to come back again as Blue Blazer. On January 25, 1999, in the midst of the Blue Blazer angle Owen and Jeff defeated Ken Shamrock and The Big Boss Man for the tag-team titles.

Death

On May 23, 1999, Hart fell to his death in Kansas City, Missouri during the Over the Edge pay-per-view event.[42] Hart was in the process of being lowered via harness and rappel line into the ring from the rafters of Kemper Arena for a booked Intercontinental Championship match against The Godfather. In keeping with the Blazer's new 'buffoonish superhero' character, he was to begin a dramatic entrance, being lowered to just above ring level, at which time he would act "entangled", then release himself from the safety harness and fall flat on his face.

Bret "Hit Man" Hart: The Best There Is, The Best There Was, The Best There Ever Will Be

Bret Hart was born on July 2, 1957 in Calgary, Alberta Canada. He is the son of Stu Hart and grandson of U.S. Olympic runner Harry Smith (on his mother's side). He had 11 other brothers and sisters growing up. His most famous relatives are the late Owen Hart and his brother-in-laws the late Davey Boy Smith and Jim Neidhart. He was trained in the famed Stu Hart Dungeon by Mr. Hito and Mr. Sukurada. He made his pro debut in 1976.Bret went to the WWF in 1985 when his father Stu sold his Stampede Wrestling promotion to Vince McMahon. Bret was very bad at interviews and was teamed up with Jim Neidhart and manager Jimmy Hart (no relation) to form the Hart Foundation. They went on to become one of the most legendary tag teams of all time. They won the tag team titles twice and their matches against the British Bulldogs are still talked about to this day.

Intercontinental Champion:

Bret had a brief run as a singles wrestler in 1988 before re-teaming with Jim Neidhart. When the Hart Foundation broke up after WrestleMania 7, it only took Bret a few months before winning the Intercontinental Title from Curt Hennig. He lost the title at a house show to the Mountie but regained it from Roddy Piper a few months later. He lost the title a few months later to the British Bulldog in the main event of a card that sold out Wembley Stadium.
World Champion:

In an un-televised match, Bret Hart won the WWF title from Ric Flair. The WWF went in a new direction due to the steroid scandal of the era and left the era of the muscle bound wrestler. Bret lost the title at WrestleMania IX to Yokozuna and regained it the following year. That title reign is highlighted by an incredible series of matches with his brother Owen. He lost the title to Bob Backlund and regained it a year later from Diesel.
Shawn Michaels and WCW Calls:

Bret lost the WWF Title to Shawn Michaels in an Iron Man Match at WrestleMania XI. After the match, Bret took several months off and during that time was approached by WCW. He turned down their offer and was given a 20 year deal to stay with the WWF. He returned at Survivor Series 96 and started an incredible feud with Steve Austin. It appeared Bret would fight Michaels for the WWF title but Michaels gave up the title claiming he "lost his smile".
Hart Foundation Version 2 :

On the screen, Bret's feud with Austin took a strange turn. The fans took a liking to the foul mouth red neck and hated Bret's clean cut image. Bret then reformed the Hart Foundation with Neidhart and added his brother Owen, Davey Boy Smith, and Brian Pillman. When they fought in the U.S. they were booed but they were treated like national heroes in Canada. Brian Pillman died in September of 1997 and Bret's WWF career was about to end in the most unusual way.
Survivor Series 97 - The Montreal Screwjob:

Vince McMahon informed Bret that he would not honor his contract. Bret signed with WCW. Bret had a clause in his WWF contract that gave him reasonable creative control for the last 60 days of his WWF tenure. Bret hated Shawn Michaels in real life and refused to lose to him in Canada. The match ended with Vince calling for the bell when Bret was in the Sharpshooter. After the match, Bret went on a rampage and gave Vince a black eye in a locker room fight.
WCW and Owen:

Bret's tenure in WCW was marked by wasting his talent. He was a victim of the politics that would eventually destroy the company. On May 23, 1999, Bret's brother Owen died during a PPV broadcast when he fell from the ceiling of the arena in a stunt gone horribly wrong. Bret's career ended soon after when he was kicked in the head by Goldberg at Starrcade 99 and suffered a career ending concussion.
Life After Wrestling:

On June 24, 2002, Bret suffered a stroke while riding his bike. Thankfully, he has made a recovery from that. He is now on friendly terms with Vince McMahon and has worked with the WWE on a three-disc DVD collection that honors his legendary career. In 2006, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Fred Ottman (born August 5, 1956 in Norfolk, Virginia) is a retired American professional wrestler best known for his notoriously bad "Shockmaster" gimmick in World Championship Wrestling.

World Wrestling Federation

Tugboat

Ottman first appeared in the WWF in the June of 1989, where he wrestled as Big Man Steel once, with Slick as his manager.. He joined the WWF full time that September, wrestling first as Tugboat Tyler on house shows, then as Tugboat Thomas (later Tugboat) upon his TV debut in January 1990. His character developed a close friendship with Hulk Hogan, and assisted Hogan in his feud with Earthquake. Although The Big Bossman took his place in Hogan's corner after Earthquake attacked Tugboat prior to the match, he later appeared on the same team as both Hogan and Bossman at the 1990 Survivor Series. He also was a participant in the 1991 Royal Rumble.

Typhoon

Ottman later became Typhoon after he attacked The Bushwhackers during a six-man tag team match. As Typhoon, he and Earthquake entered the tag team ranks as The Natural Disasters. They were managed by Jimmy Hart. After breaking away from Hart, the Natural Disasters defeated Money Incorporated for the WWF Tag Team Championship in 1992. [5]

No explicit separation with Earthquake was given on TV. However, their last known match together was the Royal Rumble 1993 when Earthquake exchanged blows with his partner Typhoon, ultimately eliminating him.

Typhoon made a few appearances on Monday Night Raw in the months that followed, including in the TV match debut of Doink the Clown, before leaving the WWF in July 1993.

Debuted as Shockmaster in WCW and later the character revamped as Super Shockmasterthis, was originally intended to be the Shockmaster's nephew, who would then refer to the Shockmaster as "Uncle Fred." After that point, the Shockmaster was portrayed as a klutz until the character was eventually abandoned.

Return to WWF

After leaving WCW in 1994, Ottman returned to the WWF, reprising his Typhoon character. He feuded with Yokozuna and Crush after the two of them (kayfabe) ended the career of his former partner, Earthquake. Ottman left the business after this angle.

Terrence Gene "Terry" Bollea (born August 11, 1953)[5] better known by his ring name Hulk Hogan, is an American actor, and semi-retired professional wrestler. He starred in the VH1 reality show Hogan Knows Best and is the co-host of American Gladiators on NBC.

Bollea entered the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005 and is officially a twelve-time world champion: a six time WWF/E Champion[6] and a six time WCW World Heavyweight Champion[7] as well as a former one time Tag Team Champion with Edge.[8][9] He is also the winner of the Royal Rumble in 1990 and 1991.[8][10]

Former NWA World Champion Terry Funk introduced Bollea to World Wrestling Federation (WWF) chief Vincent J. McMahon, who was impressed with his charisma and physical stature. McMahon gave Bollea the last name Hogan, as he was obsessed with using Irish names.[15] At this time, Hogan wrestled Bob Backlund for the WWF Championship,[16] and he started his first big feud with André the Giant, which culminated in a match with André at Shea Stadium.[17]

WWF Champion (1984–1988)
See also: WrestleMania III and The Mega Powers

On the October 5, 1985 edition of Saturday Night's Main Event, he successfully defended the title against Nikolai Volkoff in a flag match. He met long-time rival Roddy Piper in a WWF title match at the historic Wrestling Classic pay-per-view (PPV) event. Hogan retained the title by disqualification after Bob Orton interfered and hit Hogan with his cast. Hogan had many challengers in the way as the new year began. Throughout 1986, Hogan made successful title defenses against challengers such as Terry Funk,[31] "The Magnificient" Don Muraco,[32] King Kong Bundy (in a steel cage match at WrestleMania 2),[33][34] Paul Orndorff,[35] and Hercules Hernandez.

In the fall of 1986, Hogan occasionally wrestled in tag matches with The Machines as Hulk Machine under a mask copied from New Japan Pro Wrestling gimmick "Super Strong Machine." At WrestleMania III in 1987, Hogan was booked to defend the title against André the Giant, who had been the sport's premier star and was pushed as undefeated for the previous two decades. A new storyline was introduced in early 1987; Hogan was presented a trophy for being the WWF Champion for three consecutive years.[39] André the Giant, a good friend came out to congratulate him.[40] Shortly afterwards, André was presented a slightly smaller trophy for being "undefeated in the WWF for 15 years."[39] Hogan came out to congratulate André, who walked out in the midst of Hogan's speech. Then, on an edition of Piper's Pit, Hogan was confronted by Bobby Heenan, who announced that André was his new protégé, and Andre challenged Hogan to a title match at WrestleMania III. At WrestleMania III, Hogan successfully defended the WWF World Heavyweight Championship against André the Giant. During the match, Hogan bodyslammed the 520-pound Frenchman and won the match after executing a scoop slam and a leg drop.

Hogan remained WWF Champion for four years and 13 days (1,474 days). He became the third longest reigning WWF Champion in the process, only after Bruno Sammartino and Bob Backlund. In front of 33 million viewers, however, Hogan finally lost the belt to André on the February 5 edition of The Main Event after a convoluted scam involving "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase and "evil" twin referee Earl Hebner (in place of the match's appointed arbiter, his twin brother Dave Hebner).[47] After André delivered a belly to belly suplex on Hogan, Hebner counted the pin while Hogan's left shoulder was clearly off the mat. After the match, André handed the title over to DiBiase to complete their storyline business deal. As a result, the WWF Championship was vacated for the first time in its 25-year history. At WrestleMania IV, Hogan participated in a tournament for the vacant WWF title to regain it and faced André in the tournament quarter-finals but their match resulted in a double disqualification. Later that night in the main event, Hogan interfered and helped his on/off friend "Macho Man" Randy Savage in beating Ted DiBiase to win the vacant WWF title. The relationship between the two would lead to the main event of the following WrestleMania.Together, Hogan, Savage, and manager Miss Elizabeth formed a partnership known as The Mega Powers. The Mega Powers, however, soon imploded from within in 1989, due to Savage's burgeoning jealousy of Hogan and his paranoid suspicions that Hogan and Elizabeth were "more than friends." This all started at Royal Rumble 1989, when Hogan accidentally eliminated Savage from the Royal Rumble match

Hassan and Daivari came out to confront and assault fan favorite Shawn Michaels. The following week, Michaels approached Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff demanding a handicap match with Hassan and Daivari. Bischoff refused but told Michaels if he found a partner he would be granted a tag team match. Michaels then made a plea for Hulk Hogan to come back and team with him. On the April 18 episode of Raw, Hassan again led an attack on Michaels until Hogan appeared, and saved Michaels and accepted his offer. At Backlash 2005, Hassan and Daivari lost to Hogan and Michaels. After a brief fall out with McMahon and WWE, Hogan was lured to Memphis Wrestling with the proposal of wrestling Jerry "The King" Lawler.

Television and movie roles

Hulk Hogan's crossover popularity led to several television and movie roles. Along with Rocky III (1982) and No Holds Barred (1989), he starred in the family films Suburban Commando (1991), Mr. Nanny (1993), Santa with Muscles (1996), and 3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain (1998).[151] He starred in his own television series, Thunder in Paradise, in 1994. He is the star of The Ultimate Weapon (1997), in which Brutus Beefcake also appears in a cameo.

Commonly known as Latino heat, famous for his quotes "Viva la Raza" & "Lie Cheat
& Steal"
. Enters with Latino style cars [ different types of cars for different type of
Smack down shows].
Brother of Chavo Gurerro classic[ former cruiser weight champion], has played
wrestling for decades, as teamed up with both Chavo Gurerro's [Dad & son] to hold
tag titles, also won a lot of tag title with Chris benoit.

Like Chris benoit had to wait a lot of years to claim a WWE title shot [indeed waited
for more than 17 years in the field], finaly got a chance against Brock Lesner on "No
Way Out 2004" after winning the 15 man over the top rumble on the previous month
smack down. Didnt let slip the opportunity and won the title in style.

Shook everyone by surprise when he defended his title successfully against no.1
contender Kurt Angle on "Wrestle Mania 2004", also defended his title against John
Bradshaw Lay field in the next smack down PPV. Even though Eddie's matches don't
prominently figure on all time top 50 matches he still has played a lot of matches
that got excellent ratings among WWE fans.

His favoured opponent : Edge & Angle.
Played a series of matches against Edge on 2002 & won almost all of his matches
except for the ladder match, inspite of losing the match Eddie's fame rised among the
fans for his excellent display of wrestling skills.

Eddie is mainly famous for his tag title earlier in his career, specially with his long
time friend Chris Benoit, these two guys played together almost on all brands of
wrestling like ECW,ACW,WWF,NWA,WCW & WWE.
Became the first guy to hold the United states championship title which was re
introduced on 2003 only to lose it to Big show later the year. Held 2 titles at the same
time when he held "United states championship" as well as "WWE tag team" titles.

Also famous for his chit chats, Latino cars, humours & Latin quotes, he described
Wrestle Mania 2004 as the best day of his life for 2 reasons one for defending his title
against Angle & other to see his close friend winning the long awaited title of "World
Heavy weight championship".

Eddie's fame is rising day by day and who knows may end up in the list of top 50 wrestlers all time. Lets wait and see how his progress moves from here on.Just when we thought Eddie would entertain fans more and more he died all of a sudden leaving all wrestling fans on grief.

On November 13, 2005, Guerrero was found unconscious in his hotel room (The Marriott City Center) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by his nephew, Chavo. Chavo attempted CPR, but Eddie was pronounced dead when paramedics arrived on the scene. He was survived by his widow Vickie Guerrero and their two daughters, Shaul and Sherilyn. He also is survived by a daughter, Kaylie, from a previous relationship.

Randall Mario Poffo (born November 15, 1952) better known by his ring name "Macho Man" Randy Savage,
is a former American professional wrestler and actor who is best known for his time with Total Nonstop
Action Wrestling (TNA), World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and most notably World Wrestling Federation

(WWF). For much of his tenure in the WWF, he was managed by his real life wife, "Miss Elizabeth"
Hulette.Savage is a six-time world champion, with four WCW title reigns and two WWF title reigns. In WWF, he was a 2 time WWF Champion, a 1 time Intercontinental Champion and the winner of 1987 King of the Ring tournament. In WCW, he was a 4 time WCW World Heavyweight Champion and the winner of 1995 World War 3 battle royal.

He is a second-generation professional wrestler; his father Angelo Poffo was a well-known wrestler in the 1950s and 1960s,Randy's brother Lanny had a moderately successful career as a wrestler, too, most
notably under the names "Leaping Lanny Poffo" and "The Genius."

His first wrestling character, "The Spider Friend", was similar to Spider-Man.is name change from Randy Poffo came at the suggestion of Georgia Championship Wrestling (GCW) who said that the name
Poffo didn't fit someone who "wrestled like a savage".[3] During this transition from Poffo to Savage.

Contracted to WWF - World Wrestling federeation from 1985-1994

He made his pay-per-view (PPV) debut at The Wrestling Classic on November 7, 1985, where he defeated Ivan Putski, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, and the Dynamite Kid on his way to finishing runner-up to
Junkyard Dog in a sixteen man tournament.[13] Junkyard Dog beat him by countout in the finals.

On November 2, 1985 edition of Saturday Night's Main Event, he unsuccessfully challenged Santana for
the title (Savage won the match by countout but not the title because a title does not change hands by
countout)[14] before defeating Santana in a rematch on February 24, 1986 (taped February 8) edition of

Prime Time Wrestling to win the WWF Intercontinental Championship at the Boston Garden.

Early on in his WWF career, Savage also won two countout victories in Madison Square Garden over his future tag-team partner WWF Champion Hulk Hogan (although the belt did not change due to the countout) and engaged in historic feuds with Bruno Sammartino and George "the Animal" Steele.
Savage wrestled in what is widely considered to be one of the greatest matches in North American
wrestling history when he faced Ricky Steamboat at WrestleMania III in the Pontiac Silverdome.
Savage was a stickler for detail, and he and Steamboat laid out and rehearsed every spot in the match
prior to WrestleMania, at his home in Florida. The highly influential match was considered an instant
classic by both fans and critics and was named 1987's Match of the Year by both Pro Wrestling Illustrated and the Wrestling Observer.

Won the King of the Ring tournament in 1987.

The Mega Powers were born.Hogan and Savage together ruled the WWF with series of victories.
Savage reached the pinnacle of his career to date at WrestleMania IV when after defeating Butch Reed,
Greg Valentine, and One Man Gang on the same day,he defeated "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase in
the finals of a 14 man tournament for the vacant WWF Championship.

Savage was a successful champion and held the title for over a year and defended the WWF title against
the likes of One Man Gang and André the Giant.

At WrestleMania V, Savage dropped the WWF title to Hogan after a reign of 371 days, becoming sixth
longest reigning WWF Champion in history (no champion after Savage held the title for more than a year
until John Cena nineteen years later).

Savage and Zeus faced Hogan and Beefcake in a rematch contested in a steel cage at No Holds Barred,
and lost again.

He adopted the moniker "Macho King" after defeating Jim Duggan for the makeshift King's Crown
Championship. Kings crown championship was equallent to King of the ring in modern terms.

Fought a career-ending match at WrestleMania VII against Ultimate Warrior. Savage lost the match after
delivering five consecutive elbow drops as the Warrior somehow managed to kick out and return to score
the victory after several flying clotheslines and shoulder blocks.

Formed a tag team with The Ultimate Warrior known as the Ultimate Maniacs, which however didnt last
long as Warrior left wwf and hence Macho paired with Perfect to defeat Flair and Ramon viz DQ in 1992.

Contracted to WCW - World Championship Wrestling from 1994 to 2000.

He participated in the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship tournament and went on to defeat
The Butcher in the first round[61] and "Stunning" Steve Austin in the quarterfinals, got disqualified
when he interfered in Flair's match and hence lost a the chance to play semi's.
Savage then defeated Flair in a Lifeguard Lumberjack match at Bash at the Beach 1995.

Savage won his first WCW World Heavyweight Championship by winning the first-ever 60-man three-ring
battle royal. He lost the title to Flair a month later at Starrcade 1995: World Cup of Wrestling.

Savage won his second WCW World Heavyweight Championship back from Flair on January 22, 1996 edition of Nitro but lost the title back to Flair the next month in a steel cage match at SuperBrawl VI.

Savage joined NWO in 1997.

Tag team match between Kevin Nash and Sting against Randy Savage and Sid Vicious, in which whoever
scored the winning fall would win the WCW World Title, at Bash at the Beach 1999. Savage won his
fourth and final WCW World Heavyweight Championship when he pinned Nash, however, he lost the title
again to Hollywood Hogan the next night on Nitro.

Contracted to TNA on 2004

Savage made his return to wrestling for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) at Victory Road 2004 by
confronting Jeff Jarrett. At Turning Point 2004, he teamed up with Jeff Hardy and A.J. Styles to defeat
the Kings of Wrestling (Jeff Jarrett, Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall).

Ernie Roth (born June 7, 1929 in Canton, Ohio- October 12, 1983), best known as The Grand Wizard of Wrestling, also well known as Abdullah Farouk, was a professional wrestling manager of many infamous heels. Not a wrestler himself due to his small stature, he was noted for his flamboyant outfit of sequined jackets, wraparound sunglasses, and a brightly-colored turban decorated with jewels and feathers.

Ernie Roth got his start in the entertainment business as a disc jockey, and became involved in professional wrestling as a manager in the 1960s in Detroit-based territories. Roth first worked under the names "Mr. Clean" and "J. Wellington Radcliffe", but more famously, he also portrayed "Abdullah Farouk", a man from the Middle East who was sent by The Sheik's wealthy "family" to handle their son's affairs in the US.

Ernie Roth could turn a phrase like no other, and that quality led him to success in all facets of his professional life. At the beginning of his career, Roth was a disc jockey in the Midwest looking for success; but when his career was over, The Grand Wizard was lauded as one of the most nefarious managers in the history of sports-entertainment.

In the 1960s, then radio-announcer Roth got his start in sports-entertainment, working in the Detroit area. Standing only 5 foot 7 and weighing less than 150 pounds, he certainly wasn’t much of a physical threat. However, it was his intellect and keen sense of timing that made him one of the elite. Then known as Abdullah Farouk, he began managing The Sheik, carving a niche for himself as a sneaky, underhanded crony at ringside. He was one of the first managers to frequently interfere on his client’s behalf, nearly inciting riots on several occasions. He became so good at what he did that in the 1970s, he moved to WWE and became known as The Grand Wizard.

Clad in deliberately mismatched clothes, a spangled turban and wrap-around sunglasses, the Wizard made a splash almost instantly. He led Stan Stasiak to the WWE Championship in 1973, and later led “Superstar” Billy Graham to the same title in 1977. He also led Pat Patterson, Ken Patera and Don Muraco to the Intercontinental Championship in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Hall of Famers Killer Kowalski, Cowboy Bob Orton, Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, Mr. Fuji and Sgt. Slaughter are just a few of the other Superstars who spent time under The Grand Wizard’s tutelage. Fuji later went on to become a successful manager in his own right, undoubtedly learning some of the finer tricks of the trade from the Wizard.

While widely-known for his meddling ways, The Grand Wizard was also known as one of the smoothest talkers in sports-entertainment. He carried over this talent from his radio days, inciting fans and announcers by reminding them that “it’s hard to be humble when you’re great!”

Unfortunately, no one ever found out the limits of that greatness. In October 1983, he passed away after a heart attack. WWE was stunned by his sudden loss, paying tribute to him on television in the wake of his passing; former protégé Slaughter even saluted an empty corner during a match in tribute to his fallen mentor.

In 1995, The Grand Wizard was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, with Slaughter giving his induction. His influence has inspired numerous managers throughout the years, and while his legacy will always live on based on that, his Hall of Fame induction solidifies him as truly one of the greatest managers in history.

After playing for 17 years in various formats of wrestling like WWF,WCW,ECW etc finally got a chance to prove his mettle as he wont the Royal Rumble 2004. He indeed won it style, only the 2nd guy [1st being HBK Shawn Micheals] to have won the rumble entering the ring as the 1st contender & won it as the last contender to stand.

Got a shot in Wrestlemania XX for the heavyweight title, it was triple threat match between HBK ,HHH & him, got the belt by making HHH tap out for the crippler cross face. The triple threat match was again rearranged for the next raw ppv which was again won by him but this time made Shawn Micheals tap out with snap shooter [Move invented by Bret Hart Hitman].Defended his title again in the next PPV BadBlood 2004 against Kane.
His historical match was on Royal Rumble 2003 when he took on Kurt Angle for the belt, eventhough ended up on the losing side it was still a great performance and the match was one among the top 50 matches of all time. Lot of his matches features in the all time 50 list .Held the intercontinental belt for a short time in 2002 by defeating RVD but only to lose the belt to him in the rematch.

Most favoured opponent Kurt Angle & Triple H.
One of very tough contenders in the ring has faced hugh success on all title that wwe has offered him. Has been a Tag title holder with Edge,Angle, Eddie Gurerro.

One of the member of Team Angle which won the famous Team Lesner in a 5 man tag team match. [team Lesner is said to be the Largest formation in WWE history].

One of the guy who held 2 belts together when he held WWE Heavyweight title as well as shared the honors of WWE tagteam title along with Edge. Virtually played in all type of matches from "hell in the cell",steel cage, fatal fourway, etc. Yet to take part in an elimination chamber match.

One of very hardworking character in the business, and it is a great pleasure to see his name added in wrestling legends list.

When wrestling fans havent recovered from the death of Eddie 2 years before and another legend and Eddie's close friend passed away.

On June 25, 2007, Benoit, his wife Nancy, and their 7-year-old son Daniel were found dead in their Fayetteville, Georgia, home at around 2:30 p.m .

Richard Morgan Fliehr[3] (born February 25, 1949, in Minneapolis, Minnesota[3]) better known by his ring name, Ric Flair, is a retired American professional wrestler. Also known as "The Nature Boy,

Flair is very famous for several heel storylines apart from involvements in several formations like EVOLUTION.Flair is a 16 time World Heavyweight champion, the record still unbroken.Flair is an eight-time National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) Champion, six-time WCW Champion and two-time WWF/E Champion. Flair also won the 1992 Royal Rumble.

National Wrestling Alliance

captured his first title when, on February 8, 1975, he beat Paul Jones for the Mid-Atlantic TV Championship.

Ric Flair won the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship when he defeated Bobo Brazil on July 29, 1977; and during the next three years, he held five reigns as U.S. Champion while feuding with Ricky Steamboat, Roddy Piper, Mr. Wrestling II, Jimmy Snuka, and Greg Valentine (with whom he also formed a championship tag team). Flair, however, reached elite status when he began referring to himself as "The Nature Boy," which incited a notorious 1978 feud with the original "Nature Boy," Buddy Rogers, who put Flair over in a now-famous encounter.

Then on September 17, 1981, Flair reached the top of the mountain when he beat Dusty Rhodes for his first NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

Flair taunted his opponents with his famous "Wooo!" shout (for which, Flair claims to have drawn inspiration from Jerry Lee Lewis' song "Great Balls of Fire.

Harley Race won the title from Flair in 1983, but Flair regained the title at Starrcade 1983 in Greensboro, North Carolina in a Steel Cage match; afterwards, Race and Flair fought in many different matches in early 1984.

He then reigned for two years, two months, and two days, losing his title to Dusty Rhodes on July 26 at The Great American Bash 1986; Dusty had been a notable foe in Flair's career, and both men began a famous feud with one another after Flair helped break Dusty's leg on September 29, 1985. Flair regained the title two weeks later. Flair defended his titles against opponents like Harley Race, Ricky Steamboat, Roddy Piper, Kerry Von Erich, Jay Youngblood, Sting, Ronnie Garvin, Magnum T.A., and Dusty Rhodes throughout his career, as well.

Contracted to WCW - World Championship Wrestling from 1986 to 1991

Flair lost the NWA World Championship due to his flamboyant ways in Detroit to Ron Garvin on September 25, 1987.

In early 1988, rising star Sting had challenged Flair to a match at the first ever Clash of Champions. Flair accepted, and fought Sting to a 45 minute time-limit. The match is known as the match that made Sting a huge star in the NWA.

Flair regained the title from Sting on January 11, 1991, in front of a near empty house due to the blizzard conditions in the New York City area.

WCW split their recognition of a World Heavyweight Champion from the NWA, and Flair was subsequently recognized as the first WCW World Heavyweight Champion, while still being recognized as NWA World Champion.

At the Clash of the Champions on January 30, he wrestled Scott Steiner to a draw.

On March 21, 1991, Tatsumi Fujinami defeated Flair in a controversial match in Tokyo at the WCW/New Japan Supershow. While the NWA recognized Fujinami as their new champion, WCW did not because Fujinami had backdropped Flair over the top rope in a violation of WCW rules.

On May 19, 1991, Flair defeated Fujinami at SuperBrawl in St. Petersburg, Florida to reclaim the NWA title and retain the WCW title. In doing so, he became an eight time NWA World Heavyweight Champion, breaking Harley Race's record. On June 14, at the Clash of the Champions, he defeated Bobby Eaton in an epic two-out-of-three falls match.

Contracted to WWF -World Wrestling Federation from 1991 to 1999

At the Royal Rumble 1992, he won the Rumble match to claim the vacant WWF Championship. In so doing, Flair joined Buddy Rogers as the only men to win the WWF and NWA World Championships in their careers.

Flair lost Loser leaves WWF match to Mr.Perfect and left the company to join WCW.

Contracted to WCW - World Championship Wrestling from 1993 to 2001

In June 1994, Flair defeated Sting in a unification match, merging the WCW International World Heavyweight Championship with the WCW World Championship.

Flair later feuded with Hulk Hogan upon Hogan's arrival in WCW in June 1994, losing the WCW World Championship to him in July at Bash at the Beach. Flair lost a retirement match to Hogan at Halloween Havoc and took a few months off before returning as a wrestler and part-time manager in 1995.

Flair defeated Savage in a steel cage at SuperBrawl VI to win the WCW World title.

Flair won the WCW World Championship twice during 2000

Contracted to WWE- World wrestling entertainment from 2001 onwards

Flair reappeared on Raw following the end of the "WCW/ECW Invasion" that culminated in a "Winner Take All" match at Survivor Series 2001 won by the WWF.

At Unforgiven 2005, Flair defeated Carlito for the Intercontinental Championship, becoming the thirteenth Triple Crown Champion in WWE history .

On March 31 2008 Flair announced his retirement from all forms of wrestling.

In the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), Roussimoff briefly held the WWF Championship. In 1993, he was the first inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame. Roussimoff was one of the most famous professional wrestlers of the 1970s and 1980s, and was involved in a legendary match with Hulk Hogan in 1987 at WrestleMania III.

He was the largest athlete the world had ever seen, and was professional wrestling’s most famous attraction throughout the 1970s and much of the 1980s. Standing 7’4” and weighing between 475 and 540 pounds over the course of his career, he truly earned his nickname of “The Eighth Wonder of the World”.
By the time he was 12, the boy stood 6’3” and weighed in at 200 pounds. This was due to the fact that he was born with acromegaly, a disorder that causes the bones to grow at an accelerated rate, and to continue to grow beyond the age of physical maturity.

Determined to use his abnormal size to his advantage, Andre entered the world of professional wrestling as a very young man. At the beginning of 1973, the 27-year-old Rousimoff came under the wing of Vincent K. McMahon and the World Wide Wrestling Federation. Though the company would change dramatically, Andre would remain with the McMahon family for the next 20 years.

In an era when the sport was very regionalized, Andre the Giant became one of the rare exceptions: a performer who was at the top of the card wherever he went, a major star who was known to fans in every territory. His crossover celebrity status was such that he appeared as a guest on the Tonite Show, and even had a cameo role on the Six-Million Dollar Man playing Bigfoot.

His rivalries with the likes of “Big Cat” Ernie Ladd, Don Leo Jonathan and Blackjack Mulligan are the stuff of legend. At the WWE’s 1976 Shea Stadium event, he engaged in a boxer vs. wrestler confrontation with Chuck Wepner, in which he hurled the “Bayonne Bleeder” out of the ring and into the third row. Four years later, he had his first encounter with Hulk Hogan when the WWE returned to Shea. One of the most memorable rivalries of the time was with Killer Khan, who broke Andre’s ankle in 1981, leading to the infamous “Mongolian Stretcher Match” between the two. Through it all, Andre maintained an incredible undefeated streak the likes of which has never been seen before or since.

By the mid ‘80s, his condition was beginning to take its toll on his body. He was slowing down and putting on more and more weight. Still, he remained an integral part of the WWE’s national expansion during the era of Hulkamania. He was victorious over Big John Studd in the Bodyslam Challenge at the first WrestleMania in 1985, and added to his record for most battle royals won by surviving just such a match the following year at WrestleMania 2.

His career took an alarming turn in 1987 when he turned on his long-time friend Hulk Hogan and hired Bobby “The Brain” Heenan as his manager. The result was his first-ever shot at the WWE Heavyweight Championship. With 93,173 fans in attendance, Andre clashed with the Hulkster at WrestleMania III in the biggest match of all time.

Andre did finally win the title from Hogan in a controversial match the following year, only to give it up moments later. He also held the WWE Tag Team title with Haku for a few months in 1990. But much more than those accomplishments, Andre will be remembered for the years he reigned supreme as the most famous Superstar wrestling had ever produced. He finally succumbed to his life-long illness in 1993, and shortly thereafter became the first inductee of the WWE Hall of Fame. Truly a fitting honor for the one and only Andre the Giant, the Eighth Wonder of the World.

His very name still evokes terror, on one hand, and sympathy on the other. Of all the unusual people that have plied their trade in WWE, perhaps no one was stranger than George “The Animal” Steele. With his trademark green tongue, hairy torso and penchant for eating turnbuckles, Steele captured the spotlight without ever winning a major WWE title. There was never anyone like him before or since.
Steele first came to WWE in the late 1960s and was managed over the years by the Grand Wizard, “Classy” Freddie Blassie, Capt. Lou Albano, Mr. Fuji and even Johnny Valentine. He had classic rivalries with Bruno Sammartino, Gorilla Monsoon, Pedro Morales and Bob Backlund. In 1984, Steele re-hired Albano and ended his rulebreaking ways. His transformation was remarkable, as one of the most hated men in the sport became one of its most beloved figures.

His style was unique, to say the least. Like a true animal, he was virtually impossible to contain. At times, his various managers were able to control him, but for the most part, Steele did whatever he pleased. He clawed at opponents, bit them, and used just about every illegal maneuver ever concocted. His most devastating hold, however, was his vaunted Flying Hammerlock, which could separate an opponent’s shoulder in mere seconds. The looks of pain on his foes’ faces when he applied the hold remain among the most indelible impressions in the mat game’s history.

In a sport where speaking skills sometimes overshadow athletic ability, it’s a testament to Steele that he had such an impact without talking. This is not to say that he didn’t use his mouth, of course. When he wasn’t biting his opponents, he could often be seen eating turnbuckles, much to the amusement of the fans. His opponents would then be summarily tossed headfirst into the exposed steel bolt that secured the ropes to the ring post.

In 1986, just when many thought Steele’s career might be winding down, he once again rose to prominence. He developed a crush on Miss Elizabeth and feuded with her charge “Macho Man” Randy Savage, eventually costing him the Intercontinental Champion-ship in his classic bout with Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat at WrestleMania III.

“The Animal” had one last run in WWE during the “Attitude” era of the late 1990s, when he came out of retirement to be a part of the Oddities—a fitting return if ever there was one.

Since Steele left WWE, his legend has only grown. Today, there are few grapplers who have such an unorthodox persona, and Steele’s talents are appreciated more than ever. He remains one of the most recognizable men outside sports-entertainment, and he is the standard bearer for all the monsters who have ever set foot in a wrestling ring.

It was on a sultry September evening in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, that Pat Patterson became a WWE legend. He was already the WWE North American Champion, but he was hardly a household name yet in the northeast. On this September night, however, he emerged victorious after a grueling tournament to become WWE’s first Intercontinental Champion.
Of course, Patterson was a huge star and one of the most respected grapplers in the business long before he came to WWE. He first made a name for himself in the Pacific Northwest. He moved to the San Francisco area, where he dominated the tag team scene and won multiple championships with partners Rocky Johnson and Ray Stevens. Many consider Patterson & Stevens the greatest tag team ever.

Despite having accomplished so much, when he came to WWE, fans didn’t realize how good a wrestler he was. That quickly changed when he defeated Ted DiBiase to become the North American Champion. Then, when he won the tournament in Rio de Janeiro and laid claim to the brand-new Intercontinental Championship, his name was instantly placed among the sport’s immortals.

Patterson held the title for about eight months before he lost it to former Olympic strongman Ken Patera. Patterson was far from finished, however, as he became embroiled in a bitter rivalry with the most-hated grappler in the world at the time, Sgt. Slaughter. The Slaughter-Patterson Alley Fight at Madison Square Garden in April 1981 is considered one of the greatest, and certainly one of the bloodiest, matches in the sport’s history.

After he retired from full-time competition in WWE, Patterson made the transition to announcer, providing color commentary alongside Vince McMahon on WWE broadcasts. Patterson went on to become Vince’s right-hand man, playing a very important role in the transformation of WWE from a wrestling company into an international entertainment sensation.

Patterson reappeared on television in the late 1990s as one of Vince McMahon’s “stooges.” Along with fellow stooge Jerry Brisco, Patterson proved that he could still entertain the masses, and his appearances alongside his maniacal boss made for some of the funniest episodes in WWE history.

Patterson’s legacy will be felt as long as men lace up their boots and go toe-to-toe. In the ring, he was a master of both the physical and psychological aspects of the sport, while behind the scenes, he has had a hand in making and developing dozens of great Superstars and matches. In a business where respect is hard to come by, perhaps no one has ever been more respected that Pat Patterson.

Jess McMahon http://www.wwelive.net/wwe-legends/63-mcmahon.html http://www.wwelive.net/wwe-legends/63-mcmahon.html In 1963 – after many successful years of presenting shows in the northeastern United States -- McMahon and his partner, Toots Mondt, broke away from a national confederation of wrestling promoters, and officially formed WWE. In the days of regional wrestling territories, WWE was the largest, stretching from Maine to Washington, DC.

In time, the organization gained so much respect that McMahon’s former rivals again coveted him as a business associate. Meanwhile, the distinguished business titan was schooling his son on the fine points of the industry. But when the elder McMahon sold his company to Vincent Kennedy McMahon and daughter-in-law, Linda McMahon, in 1982, both sports and entertainment were altered more than anyone ever imagined.

Skaaland’s most controversial moment occurred in 1983, when he threw in the towel for Backlund after the Iron Sheik trapped the titlist in the camel clutch – ending the clean-living kingpin’s long reign.

Debut 1960s

The irresistible force meets the immovable object…”

That’s just one of the legendary catchphrases uttered by Gorilla Monsoon during his years as a WWE broadcaster. While the generation of WWE fans growing up in the 1980s and 1990s may only remember Monsoon as a broadcaster, an earlier generation remembers him as one of the most feared competitors in sports-entertainment.

As a youth, Robert Marella was a standout athlete, lettering in three sports in high school. He continued on to Ithaca College, where he became one of the most accomplished wrestlers in the school’s history; so accomplished, in fact, that he was inducted into his alma mater’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1979.

Following his college graduation in 1959, Marella began wrestling in New York as Gino Marella; shortly after, however, he re-debuted for northeast promoters Vincent J. McMahon and Joseph “Toots” Mondt as Gorilla Monsoon, a “former Asiatic Champion” billed as hailing from Manchuria. With manager “Wild” Red Berry at his side to do all the talking, Monsoon was instantly one of the most hated Superstars in the country. He used his immense size to his advantage and looked the part of a savage, decimating his opponents with his Manchurian Splash and famed Airplane Spin.

When WWE broke away from the NWA in 1963, Monsoon became one of the cornerstones of the new promotion. In November of that year, Monsoon teamed with fellow Hall of Famer Killer Kowalski to win the United States Tag Team Championship, at title he would hold once again a few years later with “Cowboy” Bill Watts.

Later that same month, however, he stepped into the ring with then-WWE Champion Bruno Sammartino at the old Madison Square Garden in a match that both men would later cite as the toughest of their careers. It went the full 90-minute time limit without a winner decided, and became just the first in a long series of battles between Monsoon and Sammartino over the gold.

In 1969, Gorilla Monsoon was mercilessly attacked on television by The Sheik, a wrestler even more vicious and hated than he. Former arch-rival Sammartino came to his rescue; the two then became friends, leading to Monsoon becoming a huge fan favorite, which he would remain for the rest of his career. The 1970s saw Monsoon go through a complete reversal, as one of the most despised men of the previous decade became one of the most beloved of the next.

The most high-profile incident of his wrestling career occurred in 1976 during a match with Baron Mikel Scicluna in Philadelphia. Boxing’s Heavyweight Champion, Muhammad Ali, rushed the ring at the end of the match, dancing and throwing jabs at Monsoon. Gorilla responded by hoisting the champ into an airplane spin and slamming him to the canvas.

A year later, boxing would again come into Monsoon’s spotlight, as he met Andre the Giant in a boxing match in Puerto Rico, which was won by Andre. By that time, however, Monsoon’s career began to wind down, and in 1980, he lost a Retirement Match to Ken Patera. Gorilla only wrestled a handful of times after that (in special Legends matches), but that was just the beginning of the second phase of his career.

Monsoon had been a partial owner of WWE since its inception; in 1982, he was bought out by Vincent K. McMahon, who was in the process of purchasing WWE from his father. McMahon put Monsoon behind the mic, sparking his legendary broadcasting career by making him the WWE’s top play-by-play man. Gorilla worked with many partners on many different television shows, and became the voice of pay-per-view when WWE expanded into the new genre in the late 1980s. As a commentator, Monsoon gave birth to a slew of “Gorilla-isms,” various phrases that he used repeatedly during his commentary. During this time as well, Monsoon’s son Joey Marella began working as a WWE referee, a duty he would continue until his untimely passing in 1994.

Monsoon and Jesse “The Body” Ventura (his first pay-per-view partner) are considered by many to have been the greatest commentary team in the history of sports-entertainment. Monsoon also formed a winning duo with good friend Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, playing the exasperated straight man to great effect and coining him as “The Weasel.” Their run as hosts of Prime Time Wrestling on the USA Network has produced some legendary comedy, and in a fitting end, it was Monsoon who threw “The Brain” out of the Manhattan Center during his final appearance on Raw in 1993.

While still active in 1994, Monsoon was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by fellow announcer Jim Ross. That wasn’t the end of his career by any means, however; while Ross succeeded him as the lead voice of WWE, Monsoon took on another role in 1995 when he became WWE President. He was a key figure on WWE television while in this role, but as his health began to deteriorate, he began to appear less and less until relinquishing his post in 1997.

After stepping down as president, Monsoon spent the majority of his time backstage as a coordinator; in fact, the producers’ area just behind the curtain is known as “Gorilla” in his honor. His last public appearance came at WrestleMania XV in Philadelphia on March 28, 1999, where he acted as a judge for the Brawl for All Match. Sadly, on Oct. 4 of that year, Robert Marella passed away at the age of 62.

For 40 years, he entertained audiences and dedicated himself to the business like few others. Whether in the ring, at the mic or behind the scenes, Robert “Gorilla Monsoon” Marella will always be remembered as one of the greatest of all-time; he stands out as a true giant, both in size and reputation.
